International Children’s Art Contest

The Fort Worth, TX Community Arts Center has been selected to host an International Children’s Art Contest through Aug. 30th.

Hours are 9-5 Mon.-Fri., 10-5 Sat., and noon to 5 p.m. Sun.

The Center also offers venues for dance, theater, rehearsal state, and poetry and exhibits are always on the main floor. It has been called a place for the celebration and creation of ideas.

Also through the ruin of August over in Dallas locate some fine art when you go to Banks Fine Art featuring an point to called “You Went Where? ” of global travels from various artists. The gallery is located in the Dallas Get District, 1231 Dragon Street and hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday and 11-4 Saturdays. The facility has featured over 200 traditional and impressionistic oil paintings from U.S. and European artists since its opening in 1980.

The free August exhibit is for all ages.

Dallas is home to over 160 museums and galleries and historical sites, according to research.

Many artists have been inspired by their travels from Hungary to India, like Sonia Reid who traveled to Africa and is a member of the Society of Animal Artists.

In other news, the annual Lone Star Ride to raise funds for AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) awareness and prevention will be held Sept. 29th and 30th in Austin, TX.

For the first time the organization is offering an email marketing system free to all participants to help raise money. Letters include links to online donations and you can easily personalize letters with your specific info, account, and picture (s). Last year’s largest fundraiser raised over $11,000 using this system, according to staff. The cost is free.

A Hero Raffle will consist of prizes being given out the Saturday night of the event to honor all participants. Dinners, prizes, and the grand prize of a Kona Africa Town Bike will be awarded. One will be to keep and one is donated in the winner’s name to be used by AIDS workers in Africa or both can be donated.

There will also be a pledge raffle which involves one entry for every $500 in pledges above $1,000 ($1,500 = 1; $2,000 = 2; etc.). Pledges must be turned in by Ride Out. First prize is a 2006 Kona Zing Road Bike; second is two round-trip American Airline tickets; and third is a $500 gift certificate to Plano Cycles & Fitness. A pledge reward will be a Lone Star Ride jersey for over $1,500 in pledges.

Awards will also be given to the top three individual fundraisers, the top fundraising team, and the Best Dressed Rider Team.

In other cultural news, the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival presented by Esurance takes place Oct. 12-21 in Washington. It’s the largest LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered) festival of its kind in the Pacific Northwest featuring film and video across the globe, according to Curve Magazine.

The festival is produced by Three Dollar Bill Cinema and was started in 1996.

Last year’s winner for Best Narrative Feature was “Whole New Thing” and Best Director was Russell Marleau for “The Curiosity of Change.” The Most Innovative Short Film was “Disposable.” Favorite Girls’ Short Audience Award went to “Brooklyn Bridge to Jordan.”
