Pamela J. Richardson’s Documentary Attracts A Big Crowd In Los Angeles
Congratulations Pamela!
Here is her press release from last month’s salon. According to Judith Lynne a freelance press writer– things could not have gone better for the featured guests. Salons are a great alternative to mass screenings and build a buzz for smaller indie films. According to PR log:
“Director Pamela J. Richardson (GOLD DIGGIN’: For Treasure of Money) featured at Salon at Galerie Lakaye It was standing room only as director Pamela J. Richardson was featured at favorite Hollywood art gallery Galerie Lakaye. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPRLog (Press Release) – Jul 16, 2010 – It was a great night out and a packed house at Salon at Galerie Lakaye in Hollywood, California on July 10, 2010, when director/writer/producer Pamela J. Richardson was featured for her provocative, edgy documentary film “GOLD DIGGIN’: For Love of Money”. Screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, and the featured film for Women’s Indies Night at the African Disapora Film Festival in Current York in 2008, Richardson’s original, timely premise is that “gold diggers” come from all walks of life and every social class. It’s not just the cliché bombshell with the rich older man, but the common woman and man. And in a tough economy, anyone with an income is a target. This documentary takes an interesting, insightful look at money’s role in relationships today.
Galerie Lakaye is a very cozy, inviting art gallery owned by Carine Fabius and her French sculptor husband Pascal Giacomini and opened in September 1990. Their unique concept features art in a home setting (as is the case for many art dealers in the Caribbean). Art is on demonstrate everywhere you look, from paintings to sculptures for your pleasure or for hold. At each Salon, two creative people are offered 20 minutes to present, perform or promote a project, exhibit, or work-in-progress, including art, literary, cinematic, musical, etc., and enjoy a cool evening in a welcoming setting to a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres.
First up at the Salon was author Suzy Witten, who discussed “The Afflicted Girls”, her new historical fiction novel, which takes a new look at the causes behind the Salem witch-hunts. Excerpts from the book were read.
Next, comedian Khalil “Blast” Mack (who provided comic relief in Richardson’s film) gave Richardson a hilarious introduction. Richardson was charming, poised and witty in her delivery, then showed 20 minutes of the cutting edge “GOLD DIGGIN’: For Appreciate of Money”. There was much anticipation for Richardson and her documentary, and she did not let her audience down. Laughter filled the room at the incredulousness of some of the commentary from interviewees in the film. Those 20 minutes had the whole audience wanting to see the movie and anxious to purchase the DVD, which is available on the film’s website: www.loveofmoneymovie.com, amazon.com, Best Capture and Barnes and Nobles (both on line and in some stores), Amoeba Records in Hollywood, CA, filmbaby.com and indieflix.com.
Richardson then did a brief Q&A. “GOLD DIGGIN’…” generated appealing commentary and debate that didn’t stop with the night’s end. People were still talking about this thought-provoking film the next day.
Richardson also directed, produced and wrote (with Jim Petersen) “The Wonder Kids” documentary film in 2008 about a “minute engine that could” tap dance company in Los Angeles, featuring Dick Van Dyke, Debbie Allen, Savion Glover, Victoria Rowell and the last interview of Fayard Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers tap dance duo before he died in 2006. It won best documentary in the Modern York International Independent Film Festival in 2008 (Los Angeles version).
Richardson holds a B.A. in Film and T.V. Production from USC and is currently president of her independent production company, Brass Ring Enterprises. In 2005, Richardson and Al Franklin produced the feature film trailer for their screenplay “HYDRAULIX”, a new day “West Side Story” / “Romeo and Juliet” set to a backdrop of a lowrider car contests, for which they are currently raising funds for the feature-length version.
